Peter Allemand died June 11, 2004. He was 88.
Born on June 20, 1913 in San Juan Bautista, he was raised and lived in Gilroy for the 87 years.
He attended Rucker, St. Mary’s, and Gilroy High School.
Mr. Allemand first served as a Sergeant in Company B, 184th Infantry in the National Guard then was called to duty during WWII where he received a battle field commission to First Lt. in the U. S. Army and received two bronze stars.
After WW II he served in the Army reserves and worked his way up to Lt. Colonel.
He enjoyed dancing and joined the Gilroy Gliders and Morgan Hill High Steppers folk and square dance clubs.
Later, he served as a member of the board of education with the Rucker School District from 1959 to 1965 and also the Gilroy Unified School District from 1967 to 1988 where he was President from 1973 to 1975.
During his lifetime, Mr. Allemand was a rancher who raised chickens, sheep, and grew prunes. He was the brother to the late Gerald Allemand and Josephine Howes.
Mr. Allemand is survived by cousin Francis Howson. brother-in-law Robert Howes, nieces and nephews, as well as many grand nieces and grand nephews.
A visitation is scheduled for 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at St. Mary’s Church, Gilroy. A Mass will be celebrated beginning at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gilroy. Arrangements by Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy.
