Silvia scores 13 in 38-36 comeback win to clinch tie for Men’s E
League crown
GILROY – Gilroy Young Plants earned a share of the first-half Men’s E League basketball title Thursday with a 38-36 comeback victory over the Playaz at Solorsano Gymnasium.

Robert Silvia tossed in 13 points as Gilroy Young Plants finished the half with a 5-1 record. The Titans, also 5-1, play the Plants Thursday at 7:15 p.m. at Solorsano Gymnasium for the first-half championship.

Ed Saunders collected eight points and Bill Haughney hit the only Plants three-point field goal. Al Rivera collected nine points and Ed Gamboa hit two 3-pointers for the Playaz. The Playaz led 16-15 at the half.

Mike Vanni exploded for 25 points to lead the Titans over the Sand Pit 61-46. Vance Lee scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half as the Titans rallied from a 31-19 deficit. Duane Ross and Craig Courtney each scored 10 Titan points. Adolfo Mireles scored 20 points for the Sand Pit.

Headstart outlasted Beale Properties 68-59 Wednesday to take a one-game lead in the Men’s D League pennant chase.

Don Hall led a quartet of Headstart shooters in double figures with 19 points as the winner surged to a 4-1 record. Bob Lemmon managed 15 points, Bill Christopher and Greg Bozzo 10 points each. Shawn Teacher struck for 26 points for Beale Properties, with Brit Bigelow good for 16, Mike McAvoy 11.

Cordevalle joined Beale at 3-2 with a 59-50 nod over Pro Electric-Gavilan Honda-Rio Nilo. Mike Martinez scored 16 points, Brent Torres 15, Chris Vigilante 11 and Daniel Crowe 10 for the Golfers. Abdres Espinosa scored 13 points, Johnny Perez 12 for the losers.

Gaeta’s Taqueria clinched the first-half Men’s C League crown at with a 60-50 victory over FFC Tuesday.

Richard Klauer poured in 17 points as Gaeta’s moved to 4-1, leaving three teams at 2-3. Mark Cisneros scored 14 points, David Herrera 13 for Gaeta’s. Sergio Montenegro scored 17 points, Tony Purnell 15 for FFC.

Jacob Garcia scored 24 points to lead Triple Threat past Pizza N Stuff 71-56. Jadrien Garcia scored 12 Threat points. Miguel Gilliard made four 3-pointers on the way to 31 Pizza N Stuff points. Donte Fullard added 14 points.

The Sparks remained in a tie for first place in the Women’s League with a 51-22 victory over Williams Dental Lab Wednesday at Solorsano Gymnasium.

Melanie Arner scored 17 points, Shanah Keyes 10 for the Sparks (4-1). Gail Corzo popped in 10 points for Williams Dental Lab.

Linde Francis scored eight points to lift 4-1 Above the Rim past R.J. Dyer Real Property Investments 26-21. Wendy Filice-Strametz scored 15 Dyer points.
