Aluminum theft foiled by witnesses
Two men were arrested after trying to steal aluminum wire from a rural residence and farm on the 200 block of San Bruno Avenue in Morgan Hill, between 5:30 and 5:45 p.m. Monday.
Witness saw two men enter a greenhouse before the theft and witnesses saw one of the men taking the wire. Based on these testimonies and other evidence, sheriff’s deputies arrested San Jose residents Luis Carlos De Los Santos, 57, and Pedro Mendoza, 48, for burglary.
A familiar face arrested, again
A man was arrested for the third time in less than a month, this time after trying to escape from sheriff’s deputies.
Alfred Lopez, 31, of the 5500 block of Westwood Drive, was spotted near the intersection of Monterey Road and Masten Avenue about 11 p.m. Friday in a Cadillac reported stolen to Gilroy police earlier that night. Deputies tried to stop Lopez, but he sped away.
A chase ensued, but Lopez jumped out of the still-moving vehicle near the intersection of Oak Street and Lincoln Avenue in San Martin. Lopez continued to try to escape deputies, but they caught up to him and arrested him at 12:15 a.m. Saturday for stealing a vehicle, trying to evade a police officer in a vehicle, resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance. Lopez was also arrested on warrants for possession of drug paraphernalia and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Lopez is a familiar face to local law enforcement. Gilroy police arrested him Halloween night for robbery, possession of an illegal deadly weapon and possession of burglary tools, and on warrants for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Gilroy police also arrested Lopez Nov. 24 for possession of burglary tools and for resisting or delaying a peace officer.
