Officers nabbed a 16-year-old male and identified several other young men for possible later arrest for vandalizing a restroom at Christmas Hill Park.
At 8:48 p.m. Sunday, officers were doing a standard patrol through the south Gilroy park when they spotted several young men running away from the restrooms near the amphitheater on the park side, Sgt. Jim Gillio said. There was “heavy graffiti” on the restrooms and nearby structures.
Officers chased and eventually detained the men, arresting one of the boys for felony vandalism, Gillio said. The other teens were “identified and released at the scene pending further investigation.”
The teens could be arrested at a later date, Gillio said.
“We’ll forward the case to the anti-gang and graffiti teams and see if they recognize any of the tags,” he said.
“These guys own their tag and their proud of their tag,” Gillio added.
Therefore, if the teens have been previously associated with any of the tags that police found in the park Sunday, it could be enough evidence for an arrest, he said.
