The Gilroy Police Department has released security photos of a man wanted for robbing a local Walmart of more than $3,000. And it’s asking the public to help locate him.

Police say the suspect walked into the store on Camino Arroyo around 8 p.m. Friday and passed a note demanding cash to an employee at the customer service counter.

The employee, which police said was “fearing for their life,” handed over approximately $3,300 cash.

Police have described the suspect as a white male adult, 6 feet tall with a medium build. At the time of the robbery, the suspect was wearing a white Reebok windbreaker, San Francisco Giants baseball cap, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.

The employee couldn’t confirm to police whether the suspect was armed, but they believed the suspect did have a weapon “based on his actions,” according to GPD.

“The suspect’s blatant disregard for safety, as he committed this crime during busy retail hours and potentially while armed, is of significant public safety concern,” the department said in a statement. “The photographs of the suspect are being released to media outlets in hopes that someone will come forward and identify the suspect.”

An investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about this incident or the suspect is urged to call the GPD at 846-0350, or anonymously at 1-800-782-7463.
