Hoping to hear from people who knew Andres Cebreros, police have released a photo of the 47-year-old man who was shot in the head and killed by an unknown suspect two weeks ago in a downtown bar.
“We’re hoping to find people who knew him,” Sgt. Jim Gillio said Tuesday, two weeks after Cebreros died on the floor of the Aloha Club, 7287 Monterey St., after a quiet night of sipping water and playing pool, according to a manager who was there at the time.
Aside from witness descriptions, police are still hoping to find more details about Cebreros – a husband and father of two young children – and who he was. People at local churches and Habings Family Funeral Home said they had not heard of local services, and police said they believed the family shipped the body back to Mexico, where Cebreros had family in addition to southern California.
In Gilroy, residents at an apartment complex near Gilroy High School where Cebreros’ wife and two young children once lived said the family had moved a few years ago. It was not clear whether Cebreros lived with his wife and children. Public records also reflected the family’s relocation, but residents at another apartment complex in north Gilroy where the family had supposedly moved to said they had never heard the name, and the property manager would not provide any information about tenants.
As for the unknown motive of the “brazen” execution-style shooting, police said they have not discovered anything so far to suggest someone “hit” Cebreros in connection with a drug or some other illicit cartel.
