hopes of finding the identity of the attacker.
GILROY – A Gilroy Police Department detective is on his way to San Jose Medical Center today to talk with stabbing victim Michael Reese in hopes of finding the identity of the attacker.
Reese, of Hollister, was attacked Wednesday afternoon just outside of his car, which was parked on the shoulder of Monterey Road on the south side of Gilroy. He sustained a deep cut to his throat that came close to his jugular and a stab wound in the back. He was able to walk to a nearby gas station, where he was treated and airlifted to San Jose for surgery.
The suspect fled the scene into an adjacent trailer park, and police were unable to find him despite setting up a perimeter and searching for more than two hours. Police hope talking with Reese – who could barley speak following the attack – will help shed some light on the case.
“Detective Zen is on his way to the hospital as we speak to try and get some information,” GPD Detective John Marfia said in a phone conversation this morning.
According to witness accounts, the stabbing suspect is described as a 35-year-old Latino male who was wearing a light-colored jacket.
No weapon was recovered by police.
Police have not determined a motive for the Wednesday afternoon’s violence, although one witness on the scene said she spoke to Reese while he awaited medical attention and Reese told her the man who stabbed him was “his friend.”
Reese has only a “very minor” criminal history, according to Marfia.
