SAN JOSE—This year’s prep football All Stars are in for a special treat.
The Rotary Club of Almaden Valley announced Monday that the 41st Annual Charlie Wedemeyer High School All Star Game will be played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. Two surprise 49ers players will show the All Stars the ropes of their stadium as guest coaches for the game.
The All Star game, slated for 6 p.m. Aug. 1, features top graduating football players from 46 Santa Clara County high schools, including Gilroy, Christopher, Live Oak and Sobrato.
Eric Perry will coach the South team, which features players from South County. He is currently the head coach of Pioneer High School in San Jose. The North team will be led by Fremont High’s Jake Messina.
Several former All Stars have gone on to playing or coaching careers in the NFL or NCAA. Gilroy High great Jeff Garcia is among them, having played in the 1988 contest. It was one of only three ties—the game finished with a 0-0 final—in the All Star game’s history.
Other Bay Area standouts to play in the All Star game include: Kiko Alonso, Jared Allen, Pat Tillman, Doug Cosbie, Trent Edwards, John Tuggle, Mike Holmgren, Ken Caminiti and Erik Howard.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students with a student ID. They can be purchases online at santaclaraallstar.com or by calling Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000. Tickets may also be purchased at the Levi’s Stadium Box Office 4900 Mare P. DeBartolo Way in Santa Clara.
