GIRLS SOCCER
Mustangs blanked by Mitty
Gilroy knew taking on the defending Central Coast Section champs wouldn’t be easy and Archbishop Mitty proved it right.Â
The Monarchs blanked Gilroy 5-0 Monday. Coach John Slattery remained optimistic despite the lopsided final.Â
“… the girls played hard but were just not in same league,” Slattery said via email. “With Mitty, the game will help us in our league.”
The Mustangs were down their starting goalie for most of the game as she dislocated her finger in the eighth minute. Katrina Carter, who normally plays defense, stepped in to take over in net and gave a valiant effort.Â
Iris Aparicio gave her best performance of the year and was complemented by Jackie Gomez. Tayler Sillaci and Angie Leonardo had a strong game defensively.
The Mustangs (1-4) will host Live Oak at 4 p.m. Thursday.Â
