Prep Roundup: Jan. 21

The Christopher boys won their second straight game, beating Monte Vista Christian 2-1 Tuesday in Watsonville.
The Cougars scored a goal in each half for the win. Chris Drury got them on the board with a goal in the 5th minute. Alan Hermosillo scored the game winner in the 78th.
The Mustangs also scored in the second half from Jacob Thompson which was assisted by Jonathan Gaubatz. 
The Cougars (3-5-1 overall, 2-2-1 in league) will host Seaside at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday. 
Mustangs best NMC
Gilroy snapped a two-game skid with a 4-2 win over North Monterey County Tuesday at home. 
The Condors drew first blood, but Jaime Silva scored the first of his two goals to tie the game a 1-1 at halftime. Silva’s goal was assisted by Efren Pineda.
Gilroy broke the game open in the second, scoring three unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead. Nestor Cano found the back of the net for the first score on an assist from Sean Kaufman. 
Pineda connected with Silva for his second goal to boast the Mustangs’ lead to 3-1.
Fernando Lares put the nail in the Condors’ coffin with his fourth goal of the year. He was assisted by Tony Barredas. 
NMC scored once more before time expired, but it wasn’t enough to undo the damage.
Gilroy (4-6 overall, 2-2 in league) will host Salinas at 5:45 p.m. Thursday.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Cougars top Salinas
The Christopher girls basketball team got its first win since Dec. 22, beating Salinas 60-43 Tuesday at home. 
Stats from this game were not yet available. 
The Cougars (2-11 overall, 1-3 in league) will host crosstown rival Gilroy (7-10 overall, 0-5 in league) at 7 p.m. Thursday.
