The Christopher softball team is red hot right now and shows no signs of slowing down.
The Cougars blasted their way past Gonzales Friday to win 14-3 in five innings. Christopher has scored 44 runs in its last three games.
Christopher scored seven runs in the first three innings while holding the visitors to just two.Â
Mack Holt racked up three RBIs on three hits including a double in the second and a triple in the third.Â
Gonzales was in striking distance trailing on 3-2 heading into the bottom of the third. Christopher quickly pulled away with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Brittney Souza and Karli Martinez both had RBI singles while Holt hit. a two-run triple.
The visitors scored one in the top of the fourth, but Christopher answered with seven more runs in the bottom half of the inning. Brittney Gitmed and Holt both hit two-run singles, while Brittney Souza and Emily Fredricks hit RBI singles.
Christopher will be back in action at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday to host Watsonville.
Mustangs unable to hold off Burlingame
The Gilroy softball team was leading 1-0 heading into the final frame against Burlingame Saturday. But Burlingame’s bats awoke just in time to score three runs to which the Mustangs had no answer.
Gilroy lost 3-1 at the Circle of Champions Tournament in Salinas to fall to 1-5 on the season.

The Mustangs will take on rival Archbishop Mitty at 4 p.m. Thursday at home.
BASEBALL
MVC hands CHS its first league loss
Christopher scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to dig it out its hole.
Monte Vista Christian handed the Cougars their first league loss, an 8-5 final at home Friday.Â
Christopher (3-3, 2-1) and MVC were tied 1-1 heading into the top of the third when the Mustangs bust the game open. They scored five runs that inning and two more across the fifth and sixth innings for the final.Â
Alec Cordova was handed the loss, pitching two innings and giving up six runs on six hits. He also had one strikeout.Â
Tyler Fhurong went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Makaio Duyao went 1 for 4 with two RBIs, a double and a run scored.Â
Christopher will look to even the score at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Monte Vista Christian.Â
Early hole too much for Mustangs
Palma’s five runs in the first two innings was too much for Gilroy to rebound from.
The Mustangs lost their third straight, 7-4 at Palma Friday.Â
Gilroy kept things close, trailing 5-3 heading into the bottom of the third. The Chieftains scored a run in both the bottom of the third and fourth innings. Gilroy scored one more in the top of the fifth, but it wouldn’t be enough.
The Mustangs (0-4, 0-3) will look to right their ship at 4 p.m. Tuesday against Palma.
BOYS GOLF
Christopher takes fifth at Spring Hills
Christopher’s Tyson Hill was just two over par to card a 37 at the team’s Monterey Bay League match Thursday at Monte Vista Christian’s home course of Spring Hills Golf Course.
The Cougars placed fifth with a team score of 234. San Benito was first scoring a 185 with medalist honors going to its golfer Ryan Han with a 33. Palma was second (198), Salinas third (221), MVC fourth (232) and Alvarez sixth (285).
Christopher will play another league match at San Benito’s course — San Juan Oaks — at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Cougars drop two at Charger Classic
Christopher lost 2-0 to both Leland and Seaside Saturday at the Leland Charger Classic.
The Cougars lost 17-25 and 22-25 to Leland. The Seaside scores were not yet available.
Christopher will look to rebound at Gilroy at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.Â
TRACK AND FIELD
Lady Cougars first at Palma
The Christopher girls track team easily handled Norte Dame, winning by 40 points, 88-48, Thursday at Palma.
Ally Foster had three first place finishes for the Cougars in the 100-meter hurdles, the long jump and triple jump. Vanessa Koontz was first in the 200 and 400-meter runs and was part of both 400 relay — Koontz, Olivia Baxter, Haley Romero and Carly McPolin — and the 1600 relay — Koontz, McPolin, Alita Watkins and Natalia Gutierrez — which finished first.
McPolin was first in the 100 meters and second in the 200. Guiterrez finished first in the high jump and 800 meters and second in the 400. Kimberly Gilmour finished first in the shot put. Â
The boys lost to Palma 102-29. Cody Oberlander took first in the high jump for the Cougars with a 6-04 mark. Bryan Pipkin was first in the pole vault at 13-00.
Christopher will host Alisal at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. The team’s “Garlic Classic” meet will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday at Soquel High School.
Lady Mustangs edge Monterey
The Gilroy girls took first, second and third place in the shot put and discuss at Thursday’s home meet against Monterey, helping them to a 68-62 win over the visitors.
Jazmine Villanueva was first in the event (30-05) while Jasmin Rodriguez-Cruz was second (30-04) and Martha Jimenez was third (23-08). It was the same trio in the discuss with Rodriguez-Cruz taking first this time (95-08), Villanueva coming in second (70-10) and Jimenez taking third (49-07).
Freshman Carli Colyer was first in the 100-meter run in 13.70 and second in the 200. She was also part of the second place 400 relay team along with Karla Cortes, Elaine Sausen and Concetta Fredricks. Sausen finished first in the 400.Â
Nicole Holder took first in the high jump (4-08) and second in both the long and triple jump. Savanna Brandon added points with her second in high jump and third place in triple jump. Courtney Pipkin was first in the pole vault (7-00).Â
The boys, however, lost 94-42 to Monterey despite several quality finishes.
Darius Alexander-Jones was first in the shot put at 37-10. Brandon Boyd took first in the 100-meters in 11.39 in his debut and second in the 200 at 23.86.Â
Tim Van Horn took first in the high jump (6-02), second in the long jump (18-08) and third in the triple jump (35-10.75). Kairo Barrosa finished first in the pole vault (9-00), David Aguilar was second (8-00), and David Garica was third (7-60).
The Mustangs also competed in the Freshman Focus Invitational at North Salinas Saturday. The girls team finished eighth while the boys were ninth.Â
Victor Sanchez and David Garcia both picked up third place finishes for Gilroy. Sanchez threw a 37-01.75 in the shot put, while Garcia had an 8-01 mark in the pole vault.Â
On the girls side, Monica Ruelas finished third in the 800 and fourth in the 1,600 for the Mustangs.
