Gilroy’s breakout golfer Magnus Myhr has survived the first round of the Central Coast Section Tournament.Â
The senior Swedish exchange student shot a 74 in the second round of the Regional Tournament Tuesday at Rancho Canada West in Carmel.Â
He is one of only 18 golfers who made the cut for the Sectional Tournament Finals, held at 8 a.m. May 12 at Rancho Canada West.Â
Myhr was the match medalist for six consecutive weeks in the regular season and even earned the honor at the Monterey Bay League finals on April 27. He was a vital part of helping the Mustangs to the Pacific Division title.
BASEBALL
Cougars blanks Salinas
Anthonee Bartholic pitched six solid innings and led Christopher to a 6-0 shutout win over Salinas Tuesday at home.Â
Bartholic allowed just three hits and four walks, but struck out nine Cowboys in the win. Alec Cordova took over on the bump in the seventh and pitched a perfect inning to close out the game.Â
Christopher jumped on Salinas with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. It added another in the fifth and three more in the sixth for the final.Â
Justin Nelson drove in two RBIs for the Cougars. Adrian Rivera led the team at the plate with a 2 for 3 performance and also had an RBI. Josh Wheat was 1 for 2 with an RBI and two runs scored.Â
Christopher (11-11 overall, 7-7 in league) will take on Gilroy at 4 p.m. Friday at Gavilan College.
MVC rocks Gilroy
The Mustangs of Gilroy were shutout 10-0 by Monte Vista Christian Tuesday at home.Â

Gilroy (6-19 overall, 3-13 in league) will look to rebound when it takes on Christopher at 4 p.m. Friday at Gavilan College.
GYMNASTICS
Pace PRs at Half Moon Bay
Gilroy freshman Sloane Pace recorded a personal best of 9.75 in the floor exercise during the April 29th meet at Gymtowne in Moss Beach.Â
The result was not only a PR for Pace, but a new record for the Gilroy gymnastics program, too.Â
Pace finished 9th overall. She tied for sixth on the vault with a score of 9.15. She also took 10th on the balance beam, scoring an 8.4.
The Mustang and Cougars teams will be back in action at the SCVAL Varsity Finals on May 14th at Los Altos High School. The meet kicks off at 5:30 p.m.
SOFTBALL
Christopher edges Monterey
The Cougars won their second straight game, edging Monterey 6-5 at home Tuesday.Â

Christopher (9-9 overall, 4-5 in league) will be back in action at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at North Salinas.
Mustangs blanked by Spirits
The Gilroy softball team was shut down 10-0 by Notre Dame-Salinas Tuesday on the road.Â
The Spirits scored seven runs in the bottom of fourth and three more in the sixth. They had 11 hits in the game.Â
Gilroy (10-15 overall, 4-6 in league) will take on Monterey at 4:30 p.m. Thursday on the road.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Cougars fall to Palma
Christopher and Palma took each other to the wire during Tuesday’s Monterey Bay League Tournament semifinal game, but ultimately it was the Chieftains who came out on top.
Palma beat Christopher 3-1 in Salinas to advance to the tournament final. The Cougars won the first set 28-26, but dropped the next three 15-25, 22-25, 18-25.Â
Christopher (19-15 overall) now awaits its fate to see if it makes the cut for the Central Coast Section tournament. Seedings, match ups and game times will be announced Saturday.
