Gilroy Mustangs

The Christopher girls water polo season came to end Saturday against Robert Louis Stevenson.
The Cougars had a perfect run through a tournament, beating Gilroy and Harbor, to land themselves in the Monterey Bay League-Pacific Division championship game against Robert Louis Stevenson.
Unfortunately for Christopher, Stevenson got the best of it and won 12-1 to advance to the Central Coast Section Tournament.
The Cougars finish the season as the No. 2 team in the MBL-Pacific Division with a 14-10 overall record.

Christopher finishes fourth, falls to SLV
Christopher went into its final game of the season down four seniors, but it didn’t give up.
The Cougars lost 9-6 to San Lorenzo Valley in the third place game of the Monterey Bay League-Pacific Tournament Saturday to finish in fourth place in league.
Christopher was without four of its seniors—goalie Ryan Weberg, Gordy Papalias, Jared Baumgartner and Jimmy Vanni—who were attending a senior dance in San Francisco. But even without them, Christopher hung tough.
Zach Gallardo scored three goals on seven attempts, while Jesse Calderon had two goals and Max Deliz added one.
Zac Syth stepped in to mind the net, stopping 13 of SLV’s 22 shots. Coach Paul Wells said his team put up a good defensive effort, but lacked the speed to cover its opponent’s counters.
“With the change in dynamic, we lost some chances when we couldn’t capitalize on offensive opportunities,” Wells said. “But that happens and as this group plays together more it will get better.”
