The Christopher girls No. 3 doubles match almost had to be rescheduled Tuesday as they battled not only their opponents, but the darkness as well.
Â
As the last ones to take the court — since Pajaro Valley has only six courts — the No. 3 team of Minna Wu and Annemarie Hayes faced a setting sun as their match against their Monte Vista Christian opponents raged on. Wu and Hayes dropped the first set 0-6, but battled back in the second to win 6-4. They went to a tie breaker that ended with what looked more like a volleyball score than a tennis one, eventually losing 17-15 to MVC.
Â
That was the only match Christopher would lose as they went on to win 6-1 and improve to a 6-2 record.Â
Â
No. 1 Emily Barham won her match 6-0, 6-1 and No. 2 Adena Chen won 6-4, 6-4. No. 3 Tiffany Roberts topped her opponent 6-1, 6-3, while No. 4 Liz Levan won 6-3, 6-3.
Â
The No. 1 team of Jade Bardrick and Kaitlyn Lombardo were dominant as always, beating MVC 6-0, 6-2. The No. 2 team of Kelly Nantais and Renata Vasconcelos also won 6-2, 6-4.
Â
The Cougars will host a dangerous Norte Dame team at 4 p.m. Thursday for their last home match of the season.Â

The Gilroy girls volleyball team’s woes continued as they dropped their fourth straight game.
Â

Â
Leilani Mah led the offense with nine kills and Sarah Weiby and Bailie Erickson added four a piece.Â
Â
The JV squad also lost it’s match 12-25, 15-25 to its Alvarez counterparts.  Fatima Ortega lead the offense with three kills.
Â
Gilroy will be back in action at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Monte Vista Christian.
Â
BOYS WATER POLO
Â
Christopher rebounds with win over Alvarez
Â
After suffering a heartbreaking 14-12 overtime loss to Harbor Thursday, the Christopher boys water polo team were determined to rebound.
Â
The Cougars did just that, topping Everett Alvarez 14-4 at home Tuesday.Â
Â
Seven different Christopher (9-9 overall, 5-6 in league) players scored with Gordy Papalias managing four goals on five shots and singles from James Walling, Zac Syth, Gabriel Lopez and Chris McCann.  Matt Higgenbotham continues to close in on
100 goals for the season making five out of his shots 10 in game.
The game began in typical Christopher fashion as the team got off to a slow start to be tied at 4-4 at the end of the first. That was all the Cougars’ D would let the Eagles get as the defense stepped up its game to hold them to only 15 shots on goal for the game.Â
The Cougars will close out their league season against San Lorenzo Valley at 5 p.m. Thursday.
