Cougars outlast Alvarez
Christopher’s Matthew Higgenbotham was at it again.
Higgenbotham led the Cougars to victory, scoring nine goals in their 13-10 win over Everett Alvarez Thursday on the road.Â
Christopher took a slime 5-4 lead into the half, due mostly in part to Higgenbotham’s three first half goals.Â
The game remained close heading into the fourth period with the Cougars (5-2) leading 9-8. The intensity of the game was kicked up a notch, with eight exclusions happening in the final period.Â
Higgenbotham finished the match 9 for 12 in shooting. He was complemented by teammate Gordy Papalias shooting 3 for 5 and playing stellar 2-meter defense.
“We needed to get Gordy more help on defense in the fourth quarter,” CHS coach Paul Wells said. “He did an amazing job but ran into foul trouble trying to cover the middle by himself. I needed to get him some help sooner.”
The win over Alvarez helped the Cougars rebound after falling 5-11 to Harbor Tuesday at home.
Papalias led the Cougars with two goals in that game, while Higgenbotham, James Walling and Skyler Shimek all added one.Â
