Programming! Have we got programming.
Monday night at 9 p.m. on Public Access Channel 20, you can tune in to the Community Foundation of San Benito County’s Challenge Grants presentation, which took place April 14 at Ridgemark.
The Community Foundation has taken a bold step in awarding San Benito County nonprofits matching grants so these organizations can work towards building an endowment.
Instead of offering a “Band-Aid” solution for local organizations, as grants sometimes are, the Community Foundation is looking to encourage nonprofits to strengthen their organizations and plan for the longterm. Executive Director Gary Byrne and Community Foundation board members led the presentations. Among the winners are the United Way of San Benito County and Pet Friends.
Back by popular demand, we’ve got the Hollister Veteran’s Building Rededication Ceremony. A few people have been asking to view that coverage again, so our programming department jumped on it. Catch the speeches, performances, and celebration on Tuesday night at 9 p.m., Channel 20.
Our public affairs talk show “In Focus” features the return of San Benito County District Attorney John Sarsfield, and Deputy District Attorney Stephen Wagner to discuss the issue of gang violence in San Benito County. The show even has something for those who think they know a lot about gang affiliations and lifestyles.
Sarsfield talks about the prevalence of gang violence in San Benito County, and how his office is addressing the issue. He also shares with viewers what they can do to help keep their communities safe from gangs. Catch In Focus all next week at 5:30 p.m., on CityView Channel 17.
On Easter Sunday, you may have been munching on chocolate bunnies or hosting an easter egg hunt for the kiddies. CMAP staff was covering a very inspiring and lively Easter celebration at the Abundant Life Church on Highway 25. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a full band, drums and all, raising the roof with inspiring music at a church; not to mention the thoughtful performance parishioners participated in around “The Passion of the Christ” movie. Video Producer Weyman Thomas helped choreograph the event, and worked with CMAP in getting the event covered. We were all wondering what he was up to when he was running around CMAP, asking each of us on camera who Jesus Christ is. Once you see the coverage, you too will understand the mystery! Catch the Life Changing Word Easter Special on Sunday, 3 p.m., Channel 20.
Suzanne St. John-Crane is the director of CMAP. She writes a regular column for publication in The Dispatch highlighting the news from our local television station.
