If, during your spring cleaning, some old, half-full cans of paint turn up, don’t pour that extra paint down the drain! Take it to the Kelly Moore paint store at 8565 Monterey St., or the Sherwin Williams paint store at 8589 Monterey St. in Gilroy.

California is the second state in the nation to adopt a new law that requires paint manufacturers to figure out a way to take back leftover paint from commercial and residential users. Gilroy has two of the 22 sites set up in Santa Clara County.

“This program will make proper paint management more convenient for the public,” said Marjaneh Zarrehparvar, Executive Director of PaintCare Inc., a nonprofit organization that implements Paint Stewardship Programs on behalf of paint manufacturers.

The California Paint Stewardship Program came into law Oct. 19, 2012.
