Gilroy – Branden Elam hit a double in the bottom of the fifth inning to drive in the go-ahead run and James Lafuente shut down the Giants the rest of the way as the Red Sox wrapped up the Gilroy Little League Seniors championship with a 4-3 win at Gilroy High Friday night.

The league-leading Red Sox, sponsored by DS Builders, Inc., won the second game of the double-elimination championship Friday night after dropping the first game to the second-place Giants Wednesday, 12-8.

The Red Sox took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a bases-loaded walk to Charlie Duffy and Elam’s two-out, two-run single.

The Giants, sponsored by Operations Management, answered back with three runs of their own in the top of the fourth to make it 3-3. The Giants’ Tyler Olea hit an RBI double scoring Jared Schreckengost, and Sam May and Olea scampered home on an error one batter later to tie it up.

Elam’s double in the fifth put the Sox back on top, and Lafuente finished what he started, pitching scoreless ball the rest of the way to clinch the win. Elam had one final mark to make on the game, corralling a foul popup near the Red Sox dugout for the final out.
