Writers can contribute a brief essay – a memoir or an interview a family member or local resident – for the “Rural Scribe: Memories of Country Life” program.

Essays will be judged by a panel of local writers, educators, historians, librarians and other community members, and selected authors will have their work published on the Santa Clara County Library Web site and be honored at a National Library Week event in April.

The “Rural Scribe” is part of Silicon Valley Reads program which encourages everyone in the community to read one book at the same time and discuss it.

The 2005 selection is “Epitaph for a Peach: Four Seasons On My Family Farm” by David Mas Masumoto.

Entries are due at Santa Clara County libraries by March 15. Application information is available at www.santaclaracountylib.org or at your local library.
