GILROY – Torres Construction and DS Builders Riptide is rolling into the playoffs on a winning streak.

Earning two tough wins two weeks ago – a 5-3 victory over Dr. Tommy Tong Orthodontics Bandits followed by a 3-2 win over the San Jose Bulldogs two days later – the Riptide are hopeful about their chances of winning a Gilroy Little League Girls Majors title.

“We are happy to end the regular season on a winning note and look forward to the playoffs,” Riptide coach Glen Irby said. “All the teams are evenly matched, so it should be a lot of fun.’

The Riptide broke open their game against the Bandits in the top of the sixth, scoring four insurance runs to hold back a furious comeback attempt by the Bandits. Holly Lam allowed only one run in her four innings of work for the Riptide.

Anna Gamboa handled pitching duties for the Bandits, allowing two runs in two innings of work. Nicole Green collected three hits for the club.

Alli Hathaway’s four scoreless innings on the mound and strong hitting performances by Lam, Sol Mendez-Alvarado and Brittney Souza helped the Riptide top San Jose in the final regular season game.
