Taking a 22-17 lead into halftime, the Christopher High Cougars’ junior varsity boys basketball team held the upper hand early in the first-ever matchup with Gilroy High. The tide turned in the second half, though, as the Mustangs dropped the new team in town by a score of 48-36.

While the game was somewhat insignificant since it is part of the Watsonville Summer League, the matchup is the first of many to come when CHS opens its doors in the fall.

“It was fun,” Gilroy coach Jeremy Dirks said. “They only had one practice (before the game), but they seemed very well prepared.”

The two teams met again Monday night, but results were unavailable as of press time.
