A three-run first inning and a solid outing in the circle from Lauren Castro propelled the Gilroy High softball team to a 4-1 triumph over Santa Teresa on Thursday in Gilroy.
Castro, who is now  struck out four and scattered four hits in the complete-game effort. Casey Lester had two hits, including a double, and scored twice, Celeste Mendoza was 2 for 3 with an RBI, Kaylana Mah drove in a run, Castro helped her cause with a RBI sacrifice fly and Amber Gamboa delivered a RBI as well.
Gilroy continues action at the Annie Lynch Memorial Circle of Champions on Saturday.
• The Christopher High-Carmel softball game scheduled for Thursday was postponed.
BASEBALL
The Gilroy High baseball team notched its first Tri-County Athletic League victory, beating Alisal 6-1 on Thursday in Salinas.
Ryan Alba and Brenden Holler each had three hits and two RBIs and Jordan Dexter had one.
Alba tossed six innings and surrendered three hits and the one run.
• A solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning of the bat off Hartnell’s Robert Wayman broke a 4-4 tie and sent Gavilan baseball to a 5-4 loss on Thursday.
