San Benito High School Superintendent Stan Rose

Stan Rose:

Today, we learned that a former student of San Benito High
School, John Patrick Bedell, is the now infamous person identified
as the perpetrator in the Pentagon shooting yesterday.

San Benito High School Superintendent Stan Rose released the following statement about John Patrick Bedell, the Hollister man suspected in Thursday’s Pentagon shooting:

“Today, we learned that a former student of San Benito High School, John Patrick Bedell, is the now infamous person identified as the perpetrator in the Pentagon shooting yesterday. Earlier today, we gave the erroneous impression that this individual was a graduate of San Benito High School. Upon investigation, we have learned that he attended the High School until, 1989, but left it prior to graduation, continuing his education elsewhere.

“Anytime a former student is involved in a tragedy of this proportion, it creates a sadness for the institution and the all the people who work in it. A great part of that sadness is the knowledge that the students, parents, teachers, and community at large perform daily positive acts of goodness and heroism that improve the entire community. I urge the community to recognize the hopeful, eager light in our students’ eyes and the positive behaviors they generate by acts such as raising money to help pay the medical costs of one of their own who has cancer. That many positive acts could possibly be overshadowed by one senseless act would be another tragedy.”
