DEAR EDITOR:
Gilroy residents are getting it again!
A Dispatch staff report ( “Apply online to oversee Measure I” – Dec. 9) shows Gilroy Unified School District “leadership” is still running their shuck-and-jive with Measure I.
1) Why applications online? Does this imply residents not interested in the electronic wonders of “online services” are less qualified to file an application than those “hooked up and in”?
2) The report says “Formation of the committee is mandated by Measure I … completed applications must be submitted to the superintendent (Edwin Diaz) …” Where in Measure I was GUSD’s superintendent and “leadership” given the authority and responsibility to accept applications and determine committee make-up? That’s like letting the fox hold door keys to the hen house. Does anyone believe those chosen will be Measure I opponents? But then, it won’t matter.
Charlie Van Meter, GUSD facilities director, emphasized “They the committee) do not have approval authority, but they are a reporting authority to the community.”
This means if the committee (selected by GUSD “leadership”) disagrees with how Measure I money is spent, they have no authority to do anything about it. So what good is it – other than a cosmetic fluff put in Measure I to shuck-and-jive voters?
