The Sinons celebrate 20 years

Keith and Kelly Sinon were married Feb. 2, 1990 and will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary Tuesday.

After Keith was honorably discharged by the U.S. Army at the end of his tour of duty in 1990, they moved to Connecticut for five years to be closer to his family and start one of their own with the addition of Kathryn in December 1991.

The family returned to California after Keith’s last re-enlistment, during which they lived at Ft. Campbell, Ky., and Ft. Wainwright, Ala., where their son Kirk was born on their eighth wedding anniversary.

They now reside in Gilroy with their two children and black cat, “Snowball.”

HONORS

Brian Swanson

Navy Seaman Brian R. Swanson, a 2004 graduate of Live Oak High School, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Swanson completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

The capstone event of boot camp is “Battle Stations,” designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of honor, courage and commitment. Its distinctly “Navy” flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a sailor.

Everett Johnson

Army National Guard Pvt. Everett L. Johnson has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Knox, Ky.

During the nine-week training period, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, combat, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, traditions and core values.

Johnson is the son of Edward L. and Diane J. Johnson of Grants Pass, Ore. His wife, Marie, is the daughter of Bill and Paris Parker of Hollister.

Jordan Bredehoeft

Jordan Bredehoeft of Morgan Hill has been named to the fall semester dean’s list at Hofstra University. Bredehoeft is currently studying Business at Hofstra.

Brittney Quon

Brittney Quon was named to the dean’s list at California State University, Monterey Bay, for the fall semester. The Dean’s List recognizes students who have achieved a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 for a course load of at least 12 credits.

Brittney, daughter of Bill and Renae’ Quon, is a 2008 graduate of Ann Sobrato High School.

Louise Galdos Branum turns 100

Louise was born 100 years ago on Jan. 31, 1910 in the Gold Country of California, Amador, where her father was a gold miner. With the encouragement and a job offer from Julian Casillas, Tom and Beatrice Galdos moved to Hollister between 1925 and 1926. Louise was 16 years old and the second child. Her siblings in order of their birth, Marie Vallejo (1908), Louise (1910), Frank Galdos (1912), Helen Garcia (1914), Henrietta Liethle (1916), Eugene (1918), Laura Baughman (1920), Tommy Galdos (1924), Juanita (Neets) Marcus (1926) and Carmen Vieira (1929). She is the mother of two sons, Petey (Snipe) and Mark Gomez, two daughters Marie (Honey) Cunha and Francis Gomez Galvin, and several grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren, nephews and neices. Year after year, this beautiful woman grows more dear. She’s seen more changes than any of us could ever imagine. Through it all, her family and friends are her most important treasures. She holds every one of them close to her heart.

Tommy Pocus and Rachel Johnston were married Jan. 17, 2010.

Rachel, daughter of Maureen Marcotte and Stan Johnston, is a 2002 graduate of Mesa Verde High School. She attended Biola University in La Mirada and works as a special education assistant at Leonardo Da Vinci School in Sacramento.

Tommy, son of Tom and Janet Pocus, is a software engineer with NEC Corporation of America. He is a 1999 graduate of Live Oak High School and received a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Biola University.

The couple celebrated their wedding amongst family and friends in Loomis. The bridal party included all eight of the couple’s combined siblings. Family traveled from as far away as Minnesota and Texas to share in the celebration.

They reside in Sacramento.

Honesty Faith Velador Rivera was born Dec. 23, 2009 at Saint Louise Regional Hospital to Celsa Velador and Michael Rivera of Gilroy. She weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces.

Nathan Anthony Cortes

Nathan Anthony Cortes was born Jan. 16, 2010 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital to Brenda Lopez and Ignacio Cortes of Hollister. He weighed 8 pounds, 3.6 ounces.
