Kristen Mary Galione and Scott Jeffrey Judson are engaged to be married.

Kristen Mary, daughter of Bill and Helen Galione of Morgan Hill, is a 2005 graduate of Live Oak High School and received a bachelor’s degree in exercise biology in 2009 from UC Davis. She is currently attending University of the Pacific in Stockton to obtain a doctorate in physical therapy.

Scott, son of Craig and Jill Judson of Walnut Creek, is a 2005 graduate of Northgate High School and received a bachelor’s degree in political science with high honors and communication with honors in 2009 from UC Davis. Scott is currently attending UC Davis School of Law.

The couple plan to wed late fall of 2011.

HONORS

Mark Tating

Air Force Airman Mark A. Tating graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

He is the son of Marilyn Wriddle of Hollister and a 2009 graduate of San Benito High School.

Francisco Ruiz

Army Pvt. Francisco J. Ruiz has graduated from the Basic Field Artillery Cannon Crewmember Advanced Individual Training course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

The course is designed to train servicemembers to maintain, prepare and load ammunition for firing; operate and perform operator maintenance on prime movers, self-propelled Howitzers, and ammunition vehicles; store, maintain, and distribute ammunition to using units as a member of battery or battalion ammunition section; perform crew maintenance and participate in organizational maintenance of weapons and related equipment; and establish and maintain radio and wire communications.

He is the son of Maria and Miguel A. Ruiz of Hollister and a 2008 graduate of San Benito High School.

Michael Bielby

Private First Class Michael Bielby was deployed to Kirkuk, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in January. PFC Bielby is currently assigned to D Company, 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment (1-30 IN BN), stationed out of Ft. Stewart, Ga. PFC Bielby plays a pivotal role in the 1-30 IN BN as a combat driver.

PFC Bielby has performed exceptionally well while currently serving his country in Kirkuk, Iraq. Currently the 1-30 IN BN is partnered with the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) throughout the city and is responsible for training and mentoring them. Although this is currently the unit’s primary mission, there are countless aspects that go into supporting it. PFC Bielby is mainly responsible for safe and reactive driving throughout the province of Kirkuk Iraq. During PFC Bielby’s tour in Iraq, combat operations will end and U.S. Forces will transition to enduring partnerships with the people of Iraq. His actions will play a crucial role in that transition.

Rebecca Nelson

Air Force Airman 1st Class Rebecca M. Nelson graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

She is the daughter of Kaye Nelson of San Juan Bautista and granddaughter of Virginia Shaw of Hollister. Nelson is a 2007 graduate of Anzar High School.

Nicolyna M. Enriquez

Nicolyna M. Enriquez, a junior at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, was named to the dean’s list for her outstanding academic achievement during the fall semester of the 2009-10 year.

She is the daughter of Philip Enriquez and Marian Sacco of Morgan Hill.

Dominic Portera

Coast Guard Seaman Dominic F. Portera, son of Laura C. Nelsen and Frank J. Portera, both of Morgan Hill, graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N.J.

During the eight-week training program, Portera completed a vigorous training curriculum consisting of academics and practical instruction on water safety and survival, military customs and courtesies, seamanship skills, first aid, fire fighting and marksmanship. A major emphasis is also placed on physical fitness, health and wellness.

Portera is a 2008 graduate of Sobrato High School of Morgan Hill.

Charles Thomas Snyder

Charles Thomas Snyder was born Feb. 13, 2010 at Saint Marys Hospital, Saint Marys, Maryland, to Keri (McCarthy) and Charles Snyder, former Gilroy residents now living in Waldorf, Md. He weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces.
