Melia Itzel Betancourt was born March 10, 2011 at Hazel Hawkins to Rosalie and Richard Betancourt of Hollister. She weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces.

Laura Ornelas
Army National Guard Spec. Laura N. Ornelas has graduated from One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo., which included basic military training and advanced individual training (AIT).
During basic military training, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons qualification, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army doctrine, history, principles and traditions. During AIT, the soldier completed the military police specialist course to acquire skills to provide combat area support, conduct battlefield circulation control, area security, prisoner of war operations, civilian internee operations, and law and order operations.
Ornelas is the daughter of Robert and Dolores Ornelas of Hollister. The specialist graduated in 2006 from San Benito High School and received a bachelor’s degree in 2010 from the Art Institute of California, San Diego.
Megan Anders
On May 7, 2011, Megan Anders graduated from Westmont College in Santa Barbara with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, with honors, and a minor in Spanish. Megan graduated salutatorian in her senior class, and was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi and Psi Chi National Honor Societies.
Megan was one of three students to graduate with major honors. She was awarded the Willard F. Harley Outstanding Senior Award in recognition of her GPA, research and honors work, and spiritual maturity and leadership. She was a member of the Westmont College Activities Council and had the opportunity to study for one semester in Queretaro, Mexico.
Megan, daughter of Donald and Mary Anders of Gilroy, graduated from Monte Vista Christian School in 2007. She looks forward to pursuing graduate studies.

Joseph Cefalu Jr., of Gilroy, has earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice management from Union Institute and University.
Union Institute & University is a private, accredited university that has, since 1964, redefined higher education by placing learners at the center of their own education.
Estevan Santiago
Estevan Santiago, of Morgan Hill, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the Santa Clara County Employees Management Association (CEMA) as part of the union’s High School Senior and University Scholarship program.
The High School Senior University Scholarship is open to children of CEMA/Operating Engineers No. 3 members. Qualifying students must be currently in their senior year of high school and/or enrolled in an accredited college or university.
Estevan is a student at Ann Sobrato High School.
