Charmaine is the daughter of Dan and Tammy Rocca of Morgan Hill. Ricky is the son of Rick and Cindy Boyer of Morgan Hill.

The couple are planning their wedding for August 2011.

Navaiha Marie Camille Olivares was born April 18, 2010, at Saint Louise Regional Hospital to Christina Gonzales and Juventino Olivares of Gilroy. She weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces.

Morgan Celaya

Morgan Celaya, of Morgan Hill, has been named to DePaul University’s Dean’s List for the 2009-10 winter quarter. To receive dean’s list commendation, full-time students must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or above on a four-point scale.

Serving more than 25,000 students, DePaul University is the largest Catholic university in the country.

Sarah Rosa

Sarah Rosa, a student at San Juan School in San Juan Bautista, will participate in the U.S. Naval Academy’s Summer STEM Program.

The STEM Program is an overnight academic camp designed for rising 8th- through 11th-grade students in good academic standing who have an interest in math and science. Approximately 375 students from around the United States have been selected to participate in this summer’s STEM program.

The STEM Program gives students the opportunity to experience real-life applications of math and science principles through hands-on practical learning. Students will learn from distinguished Naval Academy professors in world-class lab facilities that provide a unique learning environment outside the traditional classroom. The Academy’s current students, known as Midshipmen, help run the Summer STEM Program and act as counselors and tutors to students.

Leonel Lopez

Air Force Airman Leonel G. Lopez graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

He is the nephew of Roxanna and Mark A. Stephens of Hollister and a 2009 graduate of San Benito High School.

Locals make Dean’s List at Azusa Pacific

Several local residents made the academic Dean’s List at Azusa Pacific University. These students are honored for a fall semester 2009 academic standing of 3.5 or better grade-point average. A total of 1,565 students received the same honor.

Jonathan Carin

Jonathan Carin was selected to receive a Loyola Marymount University Arrupe Scholarship for the 2010-11 academic year. The scholarship honors Fr. Pedro Arrupe, who served as Superior General of the Society of Jesus from 1965-81. The value of the scholarship is $22,500 annually.

Jonathan grew up playing sports with Morgan Hill’s Pony baseball and with the Morgan Hill Raiders. He attended St. Catherine’s School for nine years. Currently, he is the starting catcher on the Bellarmine College Preparatory varsity baseball team.

Jonathan will graduate from Bellarmine in May with a 4.2 GPA and will enter Loyola Marymount in the fall as a biology/pre-dental major.

ANNIVERSARY

The Vieiras celebrate 60 years

Sixty wonderful years ago, a cowboy and his sweetheart, Dick Vieira and Carmen Galdos, married May 7, 1950 and are still in love to this day.

The couple has two daughters, Trish (John) Maderis and Merri; two granddaughters, Julie and Dawn Valdez; one grandson, Rick Maderis; and one great-grandson, John.

Dick and Carmen have set the standard of what a loving couple should be. They are the greatest parents on earth, and heroes to their children, grandchildren and especially to their great-grandson.
