DEAR EDITOR:
I was wondering, were you there at these raunchy skits? This is
life. These are some of the more taboo issues that are seen in
society today. You may see it as raunchy, but can you deny that
society today is all about sex? It can’t be denied.

Another issue that I had with your article is that if you want to talk about “raising the bar” of Gilroy, make sure you can spell “abound.” Coming from a person who spelt it wrong, I do not believe that they should say anything about “raising the bar.” You may say it’s just a small mistake, a typo, but you know what, this Showcase could follow that same parallel … it could be a small mistake.
Lastly, you should not condemn the public school teachers, no matter what YOU THINK. Maybe there was a reason that he did what he did. The way you’ve written the article, you seem to look down upon free-thinking young adults.
Maybe that’ s what Kurt Meeker was trying to teach his students … the idea that they are allowed to think and are allowed to show others what teenage life is like in the 21st century. If that was his motivation, what right does a parent, enjoying the right to send their child to a free high school, have to criticize him?
If you were that perturbed by this incident and feel that irrevocable damage has been done, remember you could always send them to a private school, where the school will exercise more control due to the amount of revenue generated by the amount of students attending their school.
I would also like to mention that the teachers are working mainly from their desire to teach people what they have learned. Think about it, what other reason is there, it’s one of the LOWEST paying professions!
If allowing his students free reign in conducting a drama showcase, which would probably still less raunchy that some of the things that we see on television, then I say that it should be done. If you have a better idea or method to teaching a class, I recommend that you get teaching credentials and teaching that class.
