FREMONT – The Gavilan College women’s softball team outlasted Ohlone College 5-4 in Coast Conference North versus South action Tuesday.

The Rams (18-10, 7-1 Coast Conference South) currently sit in second place, a half-game back of defending league champ San Jose City.

After the Rams bolted ahead in the second inning, posting three runs, the Renegades answered back with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to erase the deficit and take a 4-3 advantage.

Set up by a Jasmine Perez triple to lead off the top of the seventh, the Rams put together two runs in the inning. Perez scored on an error and Nikki Lobato gave the Rams the one-run cushion with a RBI-double later in the inning.

Lobato, who notched the win in the circle for the Rams, tossed all seven innings, striking out three.

Kristy Pineda, Lobato and Perez had two hits for the Rams.

The victory over Ohlone (18-7, 7-1 North) was the first of three straight contests against North Division opponents. The Rams host Mission College on Thursday and College of San Mateo next Tuesday before getting back into South play against Monterey Peninsula College next Thursday.
