Like raising kids or providing universal health care, it takes a lot of community involvement to keep downtown Gilroy looking so pretty. The 50 hanging baskets filled with red geraniums and purple and white pansies, and 20 flower barrels that adorn Monterey Street this winter are part of an ongoing initiative by volunteers, city hall and local sponsors to beautify the blossoming downtown district.
Before the Christmas Parade that drew thousands downtown, the following sponsors stepped up to ensure the district looked its best: Michele Campbell Insurance, R. Titus Waterproofing, Fifth Street Coffee, Structure Leasing & Engineering, Mark Turner-President/CEO Gilroy Chamber of Commerce, Roland Velasco-Mayor City of Gilroy, Syngenta Flowers and Kawahara Nurseries.Kudos also to the Saint Joseph’s Street Team who does an exceptional job of watering the flower barrels three times each week and the City of Gilroy, which provides the watering drip system and maintenance for the hanging baskets.
If you would like to sponsor the next change-out of fresh flowers scheduled for April, contact Cheryl Hurlbut at of**********@ch*****.net or 408-430-6013. Sponsorship opportunities are open to the entire Gilroy community in any amount of $100.00 or more. The total cost of each change-out is $1,400.
