Rec Basketball Season Begins

The Gilroy Community Services Department’s adult basketball program begins play tonight at Solorsano Gymnasium with three games.

The D League opens at 7pm with Headstart Nursery testing the Tri City Warriors. The Money Makers and Pizza N’ Stuff, the defending champion, play at 8pm. Anritsu and Morgan Hill Garage Door play at 9pm.

The DD League begins play Wednesday when Handmade Healthcare meets Valerie Smith Intero at 7pm. The Titans and GF Farms collide at 8pm.

Orchard Valley Youth Soccer

Gilroy Stingers 3, Pink Panthers 0

For the second week in row, the Stingers pulled off a victory despite being short players. Briana Velazquez, Ariana Jaso and Kim Davis scored goals for the Stingers, who had just 10 players available.

Goalie Mallory Harmel recorded the shutout and even stopped a penalty kick. Christina Collett, Katy Florek, Marissa Mazzone and Cristin Simpson provided solid defense.

Tubbies Named Indoor Soccer Champion

Tubbies was crowned the 11th indoor soccer champions Friday with a “global” 5-3 win over Real Madrid

Tubbies, the Group C regular-season champions, were even with Real Madrid 1-1 Thursday, and then won 4-2 Friday.

The grand finale is Wednesday when Staff Infection and TSS face off.
