If there was an ideal time for the Christopher High girls track and field team to defeat North Monterey County, head coach Jeff Myers said he felt Thursday in Gilroy was it.

GILROY—The Gilroy volleyball team fell in straight sets to Watsonville, but gave the visitors a run for their money along the way.

VOLLEYBALL: GHS out of sync in loss to Monterey

The Gilroy High boys volleyball team knew it had to contend with Monterey High kill leader, Stephen Dorsey. That challenge isn't new to the Mustangs or any opponent, really. Dorsey, a state meet medalist in the high jump last season, will get his points. He registered an unassuming 17 kills in an otherwise even matchup between the Tri-County Athletic League's last two league champions Tuesday night.

Hoops: CHS girls roll by Seaside in MBL showdown, 51-38

Christopher High’s girls basketball team held a one-point lead on Seaside after the first quarter Thursday. Hanna Tabron and the Cougars made sure the Monterey Bay League showdown wouldn’t stay close for long.

Wrestling: Christopher’s Lopez claims Mid-Cals title

Christopher High junior wrestler Jimmie Lopez won the 108-pound title in Mid-Cals on Saturday night with a 10-2 major decision over Paso Robles’ Kameron Morones in the finals at Gilroy High.

BASKETBALL: CHS girls to host Los Gatos in CCS first round

The Monterey Bay League champion Christopher High girls basketball team was placed into the Division II bracket and will host Los Gatos in the first round of the Central Coast Section playoffs Tuesday night. Game time is 7 p.m.

FOOTBALL: Turnovers capsize Gilroy’s effort in loss to Monterey

If the first turnover was the snowball, then the six others that followed created one giant avalanche that swallowed the Gilroy High football team and left a Monterey High 54-21 victory in its wake on homecoming night Friday in Gilroy.

SWIMMING: Short-handed GHS falls to San Benito

The Gilroy High girls varsity swimming team touched in first place in seven out of 11 races against visiting San Benito in a Tri-County Athletic League dual meet on a rainy Friday.
