Coach Dan Mooney and the Christopher basketball team travelled to his former stomping grounds and left with a 'W.'

GILROY—“Do you want the win? Or do you want the tie?”

GILROY—The sound of helmets clashing and plays being called echoed through the stadiums and Gilroy and Christopher high schools this week. And that means it’s time for football.

Hanna Tabron had 12 points and Cydney Caradonna scored 11 to lead Christopher’s girls basketball team to a 35-25 home win over San Benito on Thursday night.

GILROY—As far as Gilroy High is concerned, the last four weeks don’t matter. The Mustangs want to put their preseason struggles behind them and focus on the task at hand: their Monterey Bay League-Pacific Division opponents.

The Gilroy boys volleyball team won its season opener, beating Pajaro Valley in five sets.

GILROY—Wednesday’s match between Gilroy and St. Francis could’ve easily been mistaken for a Central Coast Section playoff game.

Marcus Medina went 2-for-4 with a home run, Sammy Aptekar was 3-for-4 and Josh Boykin had two doubles to lead Gilroy High’s baseball team to a 14-4 home win over Alisal on Wednesday.

Christopher High is located on Day Road in Gilroy, but the street sign that hangs outside the school might as well be a tribute.
