GILROY—Over the last four years Tayler Silacci has been earning her stripes. The Gilroy High senior has spent countless mornings getting up before sunrise and has travelled across the country attending camps and tournaments all to earn a field hockey scholarship.

GILROY—Lauren Castro’s softball career almost ended before it ever really began. The Gilroy High senior quit her first year of tee-ball, intimidated by crowds and attention. But thankfully for Castro, her parents convinced her to give it one more try and this time, she fell in love.

SALINAS—The last time Kaylah Grant ran at Toro Park, she took a wrong turn, adding minutes to her time.

GILROY—Christopher’s Natalie Gutierrez earned match medalist honors numerous times over the season and now the Cougar can add another accolade to her collection: being named First Team All-League in the Monterey Bay League Gabilan Division.

Seedings for the 2014 Central Coast Section football playoffs were announced Sunday and the new Monterey Bay League Pacific Division champion Christopher Cougars earned a first round home game. 

For the sixth straight year, the Gavilan volleyball team is headed to the playoffs. 

EUREKA—Gavilan was 40 seconds away from ending the season with a ‘W’ in Eureka, but the College of the Redwoods squad had other plans. With just three seconds left, the Corsairs’ John Tanner Westby kicked a 40-yard field goal to tie the game at 35-all and send it into overtime.

SAN JOSE—It took Gilroy just six minutes to put up a crooked number on Saratoga—and the Falcons didn’t even realize what had hit them.

GILROY—Christopher’s Matt Adamkiewicz was one of the first players to reach the Severance Bell and he let it ring for all of Gilroy to hear. The junior QB led his team to it’s fourth straight Severance Bowl victory, reaching the endzone six times both in the air and on the ground en route to a 48-10 win over the Mustangs Friday at Gilroy High.

GILROY—Anyone who has seen Katrina Carter play field hockey had no doubts she’d continue her career in college. But if you would’ve asked Carter if she thought she’d get to this level eight years ago, she probably would’ve laughed at the thought.
