All the hard work Gilroy put in over the summer looks to have paid off.

Gavilan used a big second half to pick up its first win of the year.

REEDLEY—Reedley College quarterback Josh Allen gave the Gavilan defense some problems Saturday night.

SAN MATEO—The Cougars had to battle not only Hillsdale, but the wind, too—and they didn’t let either get the best of them.

GILROY—The Mustangs held their heads high as they walked off the field at the Garcia-Elder Sports Complex Friday night. The scoreboard illuminated the final in the distance—a 40-17 loss to Piedmont Hills—but in their hearts, they were the winners.

If the Christopher High boys water polo team ends up winning the Monterey Bay League Pacific Division championship this season, it will look back to Thursday’s match against host San Benito as the one that catapulted it to title glory.

GILROY—Gavilan was just six minutes away from doing something it hadn’t in 20 years—go 3-0 to start the season. But its opponents, Yuba College, weren’t ready to throw in the towel.

GILROY—Christopher fell just four points shy of beating Carmel and going 3-0. But with all the things the Cougars did right against the Padres, they aren’t hanging their heads.

Gavilan was dominate on its home court Wednesday.
