The Gilroy cross country may not have medalled at the Central Coast Section Championships, but it's not walking away empty handed.

SAN JOSE — “I am so proud of you guys,” Gilroy field hockey coach Adam Gemar said during his team’s postgame circle. “Just think of how far we’ve come.”

For the second consecutive year, the Gavilan College volleyball team is Coastal Conference champions.

The Gavilan women's basketball season kicked off this weekend, but not the way it wanted. 

APTOS – Gavilan College went out on a high note Saturday night, grinding out a 59-58 victory over the host Cabrillo College Seahawks at chilly Carl Connelly Stadium.

Christopher High School punched its ticket to the CCS playoffs, but not before receiving a scare from North Monterey County.

Before the season started, Anzar High senior Diego Avila believed he could become the second runner in as many years from the San Juan Bautista school to win an individual Central Coast Section title.

GILROY — Garcia-Elder Sports Complex was all but empty following Gilroy’s game with North Salinas. The fans had cleared out, both teams made their ways to the lockerroom. But for one final time, senior running back Brandon Boyd took a knee at midfield, reflecting on “G” that represents Gilroy and everything he’s fought so hard for the last four years.

GILROY — For three quarters, Gavilan was neck-in-neck with Hartnell — but the difference was that one quarter.
