WRESTLING: CCS Day 1 recap
Gilroy High sits in first place and will have seven wrestlers in the semifinals after the first day of the Central Coast Section Championships on Friday at Independence in San Jose. The Mustangs have 123.5 points, while second place Palma has 86 points. Meanwhile, Christopher High is in 14th with two wrestlers through to the semis.

GILROY—Thursday’s match between Gilroy and San Benito was less about competition and more about friendship. After the scores were tallied and the medalist announced, girls from both sides exchanged handshakes, hugs and smiles; the results were the furthest thing from their minds.
Prep Football: Boyd signs with Pacific University
GILROY — Though Tuesday was Gilroy coach Brian Boyd’s birthday, the cake and balloons in the school’s library weren’t for him. He did, however, receive one very special present in the form of his son Brandon signing with Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore. on an academic scholarship where he will play football next season.
