VOLLEYBALL: Year-end awards rain down on local athletes
If the Tri-County Athletic League gave out an annual Most-Enthusiastic award, a likely frontrunner for that distinction this year could have been Gilroy High volleyball player Connor Escobar.
U.S. Women’s Open: Ko in the lead, but several in close range
Lydia Ko was tied for 52nd place before the start of Friday’s second round of the U.S. Women’s Open at CordeValle in San Martin. But two rounds later the world’s top-ranked player finds herself in a familiar position: on top of the leaderboard entering the final round of a tournament.
BASEBALL: Six Mustangs presented year-end league honors
Senior Bubu Garcia was voted the Gilroy High baseball team’s lone Tri-County Athletic League first-team representative - the third straight such distinction for the shortstop. In addition to Garcia, five other Mustangs received year-end accolades.
