GILROY—Gavilan finished 1-3 at the Delta College Classic Saturday after facing some tough competition.

MORGAN HILL—Zach Heffernan waited patiently for his chance to make a contribution to the Live Oak football team. And on Friday night—a night when Live Oak’s big play makers were making big plays—Heffernan found a way to standout in a 42-14 win over Christopher.

GILROY—Last week, Gilroy head coach Jubenal Rodriguez said his team needed to be more physical. The Mustangs got the message loud and clear.

GILROY—Thursday’s match between Gilroy and San Benito was less about competition and more about friendship. After the scores were tallied and the medalist announced, girls from both sides exchanged handshakes, hugs and smiles; the results were the furthest thing from their minds.

The Gilroy field hockey team opened its season on a high note, despite some offseason challenges.

GILROY—Gilroy and Christopher kicked off their seasons on Sept. 4 and 5, but came away with very different results.

Christopher made quick work of St. Francis, sweeping it 3-0 Tuesday in Watsonville. The Cougars won 25-14, 25-18, 25-18.

While most people were spending the holiday relaxing, Christopher was getting busy at Spikefest I.

FAIRFIELD—Gavilan talked a lot about cohesiveness prior to the season and on Friday, the Rams put their words into action.

GILROY—HD Auto Glass held off Recology 12-10 to improve to 3-0 in the Men’s Fall Softball League standings at Las Animas Veterans Park Sept. 1.
