VANCOUVER, WASH.—The Gilroy Junior All Stars had an extra day of preparation—and waiting—before their first game in the Junior Western Regional tournament. While they were bouncing on their heels to take the field, the All Stars, representing Northern California, discovered the meaning of the old adage “patience is a virtue.”

GILROY—Alejandro Flores was a wanted man. He had several Southern California Division I soccer teams knocking on his door, hoping he’d suit up for them this fall. But Flores’ mother, apprehensive to have him go so far away, was praying he’d stay closer to home.

The DUB Baseball Academy’s 19U and 15U Dynasty teams won the Lake Tahoe World Series in their respective age groups July 26.

SANTA CLARA—Twenty Christopher High School cheerleaders were selected to perform at the 41st annual Charlie Wedemeyer High School All-Star Football Game Aug. 1 at Levi’s Stadium.

CHINO HILLS—The Pac-Coast U11 baseball team sits at 2-2 through two days of play in the USSSA World Series.

CHINO HILLS—The Pac-Coast 11U baseball team opened the USSSA World Series tournament with a bang. The Gilroy-based squad went a perfect 2-0 on Tuesday, notching wins over Park Bums and the East Los Angeles Athletics.

GILROY—It's often said that dogs are humanity’s best friends. And one special little boy is hoping to soon have his own special best friend.

SAN JOSE—Four local girls, playing for the San Jose Strikkers, claimed third place in the 10U division on July 19 at the National Softball Association’s World Series tournament in Everette, Wash.

GILROY—Only the 40 best baseball players in the country receive an invite from USA Baseball to go to North Carolina. Gilroy’s Alex Benavides is one of the chosen few.
