St. Mary School kicked off the 2012-13 school year on Thursday, Aug. 16 with 287 students in attendance.

The school, which hosts kindergarten through eighth-grade classes, began the fall semester Thursday morning with a half-day of classes. More than 200 parents accompanied children through the morning assembly.

Principal Kim Shields begins her first year as principal at St. Mary School. Former Principal Christa Hanson retired last year after 22 years of service.

Last year was an anniversary year at St. Mary School, marking the school’s 140th year of continuously educating students in Gilroy.
