A man rammed his car into a police cruiser that was following him, helping him evade officers twice in three hours, police said.

An unknown Hispanic male between 30 and 35 years old was driving eastbound on Luchessa Avenue near Chestnut Street about 1:20 a.m. Sunday, when police came up behind him and, using a license plate check, found that the vehicle he was driving was reported stolen, police said. When officers turned on their sirens, the driver sped off and the officer followed.

The chase continued southeast on Rossi Lane and then on Southside Drive, where the suspect hit a tree, police said. When the officers approached the suspect in their cruiser, the suspect rammed his foreign compact car into the cruiser, disabling it.

The suspect then took off on foot, ran through a dirt field and evaded police. Two hours later, the suspect turned up in Livermore, where local police again gave chase on foot and lost him.

The suspect could be arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on an officer, two counts of resisting or delaying an officer, and possession of a stolen vehicle. If convicted of charges, the suspect could be sentenced to more than eight years in jail.
