Gilroy police are on the hunt for a suspect they say stole a BMX bike at knifepoint around 9:22 p.m. Monday near the 350 block of Mantelli Drive.

The suspect is described as a 30-year-old Hispanic male, 5-feet, 9-inches tall and weighing 200 pounds. Police say he wore a black baseball hat with a black cloth underneath covering his hair, a white T-shirt and blue jean shorts. The suspect also has tattoos on his face consisting of two teardrops near his right eye, and both arms are covered with non-descript tattoos, according to reports.

Police say the suspect stole a teal-colored BMX bike that was laying next to the skate park at Las Animas Veterans Park at 400 Mantelli Drive. When the victim, an unidentified adult male, confronted the suspect, reports state the suspect pointed a knife at the victim and made “terrorist threats towards the victim, as he left, saying he would kill him.”

The victim called the police as the suspect fled southbound on the bicycle through the park towards Wayland Lane, according to the GPD press release.

Officers responded and searched the area. Police made several contacts in and around the park but were not able to locate the suspect or the bicycle, according to reports.

No one was injured in the accident.
