Dear editor,
Two weeks ago, the Gilroy Foundation held its annual Charitable Giving Presentation, where we were pleased to award more than $740,000 in grants and scholarships. Even though that is an enormous amount for our local nonprofits, we were unable to fund more than $53,000 to other worthy applicants.
How can we change that? By growing our endowment. How can we do that? By the community making donations to our endowment that will generate more money to satisfy our annual grant applications.
On Tuesday, May 6 thousands of area residents can show their support for their favorite local nonprofit during Silicon Valley (SV) Gives. On that day—24 hours of unprecedented online giving—it will be OUR chance to make a real difference in the future of our local community. You can help us to do that by supporting the Gilroy Foundation—its Community Needs Funds and/or the funds of one of its 12 nonprofit partners.
It’s going to be a big event.
We appreciate that our own local paper, the Gilroy Dispatch, is a media partner for the May 6 SVGives event. The Community Funds and nonprofit partners we support are listed on the half-page advertisement that appeared the past two weeks in the Dispatch, as well as today.
Whether it is $10 or $10,000, each donation counts! And it’s simple: just go to gilroyfoundation.org and click on the SVGives link, where it will take you to the Razoo Foundation who will regrant the donations to the Gilroy Foundation Fund of your choice. Some hours of the day will have matching funds available from corporate and local sponsors. To see those times go to svgives.org/prizes-and-matches.
It is a day when Gilroy can support our neighbors, whether it be for the arts, education, St. Joseph’s Family Center, Don Christopher Sports Complex or any of the other 12 fund choices.
Let’s show all of Silicon Valley that Gilroy has that Giving Feeling!
Gilroy Foundation Board of Directors:
