Gilroy police officers and a Santa Clara County Sheriff's K-9 Unit responded to an attempted burglary at 10:15 a.m. on the 6400 block of Barron Place. Police arrested a juvenile who entered the residence without permission after a neighbor saw the suspect

The Gilroy Police Department arrested a suspected burglar on the 6400 block of Barron Place in Gilroy on Friday. GPD were notified of an intruder entering the house at 10:15 a.m. by a concerned neighbor, said Gilroy Police Sgt. Daniel Castaneda. GPD officers and a SWAT team surrounded the house and ordered the suspect to leave the property.

A juvenile male, dressed in a white T-shirt and black and white checked shorts exited and was detained by GPD officers. It was unclear immediately whether there were other suspects in the house, so the Sheriff’s Office sent in a K-9 unit. No other people were found inside.

“The person was known to the household, but had no permission to be there,” stated Castaneda. It will be up to the people who rent the home to decide the severity of the charges to be filed.

The juvenile has been charged with obstructing or delaying police officers, and more charges are expected to follow, added Castaneda.

Authorities did not release the name of the suspect because he is a juvenile.
