Family: Two brothers, three sisters, three nephews, 5 nieces, 17 first- and second-generation teachers (one who writes science text books for kids), principals and a superintendent

What’s outstanding about her:

Denise takes each and every student’s progress personally. She is constantly looking for ways to improve her own skills and those of her students. She puts forth 100 percent constantly to help her own students and support her colleagues. As an example, Denise shares lesson plans with new teachers and is currently sharing plans with a long-term substitute to not only support the sub but also to see that the students are keeping up with the curriculum in the absence of the regular teacher. She instills her own dedication and hard work in her colleagues through her enthusiasm and intense desire to meet the needs of all students.

What she likes about her job:

Denise likes seeing her students succeed. Her students are her passion. She enjoys helping students and fellow teachers alike.

Other interests:

Remodeling her retirement home complete with its carriage house. Showing off her Washington home, especially at Christmas with her decoration competition entry. Clogging and early American dance. Raising Great Danes.
