I have mentioned several times in various articles that golf is a game of opposites. Today we talk about another one. This “opposite” deals with the fact that teeing the ball lower does not always cause a lower shot. In fact, most often it will cause you to hit a pop up.

When you lower the tee height it causes most of you to hit the ball with a sharper decending arc. This will generally cause you to smash the tee into the ground, taking a divot and thus only hitting the very bottom part of the ball. Hitting the bottom of the ball below the equator with descending blow causes the high short shot.

Sweep the ball off the tee with the arc of your swing ascending very slightly at impact and not decending. This will allow you to make contact in the center of the ball and produce a “line drive” flight and not a short pop up. If you are doing it correctly you will never take a divot and your tee will remain in the ground after impact.

Remember, when all else fails take a lesson, you’ll be surprised how much we can help.
