Gilroy – A Morgan Hill teen was arrested Tuesday night for driving under the influence after his car severed a power pole on Oak Glen Road west of Morgan Hill, California Highway Patrol officials said.
Jake Duffy, 18, suffered minor injuries when his 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer collided with a PG&E power pole north of Edmondson Road about 11pm.
The 17-year-old passenger was not hurt in the crash, police said.
“The vehicle severed the power pole,” CHP Officer Chris Armstrong said. “I know that PG&E typically seeks reimbursement for repair services.”
The speed Duffy’s car was traveling is still unknown. The roadway was wet at the time of the accident and it is possible the vehicle hydroplaned, Armstrong said.
The road was closed for an hour as PG&E crews worked to repair downed power lines.
Duffy broke his hand and was transported to Saint Louise Regional Hospital for treatment. Afterwards he was booked into Santa Clara County Jail.
The crash is still under investigation by CHP officers.
