Male 15-year-old suffers severe, but non-life threatening wounds
in possible gang attack
Multiple assailants attacked and stabbed a 15-year-old male in an incident that could have been gang-motivated, police said.

About 8:57 p.m. Monday, police responded to a report of a stabbing on the 100 block of Welburn Avenue – near its intersection with Monterey Street – in north Gilroy. Outside a business on the block, they found a bleeding teen, He was taken to Saint Louise Regional Hospital with severe but non-life threatening wounds.

The teen – whose name and address of residence police withheld because he is a minor – was released from the hospital by Tuesday morning.

Police would release few details about the investigation – including the number or description of assailants, whether the weapon was recovered or whether there was a vehicle associated with the attack. Police wanted to keep that information secret so that they could use it to verify if suspects were involved in the attack, Sgt. Jim Gillio said.

However, Gillio did nod to the likelihood of the attack being perpetrated by gang members.

“There are gang overtones to this case and the Anti-Crime Team is investigating whether this is gang motivated,” he said.
